Shell (the oil company) runs linux on a 1024 processor system. IBM did
the scaling for them. They need that kind of processing power to scan
the sea bed for new sources of oil.

Unix is still used because of two reasons.
1. Legacy apps that haven't been ported
2. Tech support - most companies are still afraid of linux because they
don't know where they will get tech support from.
