I don't know why everybody likes to use the big bad e-word these days.
And I really hope that the impression you convey about the list is
borne out of your anger rather than real experience working with the
people here. In case you havn't noticed, a lot of problems get solved,
many people get introduced to new concepts on this list.

We feel it is important for everyone to follow certain guidelines when
posting exactly because we are interested in helping as many people as
we can. Now everyone here is a volunteer, with their own work and
other loads of email to answer to as well. The guidelines are meant to
keep things convenient for _as many_ people as possible.

Help people help you ... writing clear messages makes it easier for
others to get to the point and see what they can do about your
problem. It's not possible to go through every mail that comes in on
all these mailing list, that too only in our free time. We keep
cribbing about mailing strategies because we are keen to make maximum
use of our time - no one on this list can be expected to take the
efforts of going through an ill-written mail and still feel like
helping the OP. But we do want to make sure we don't miss an
opportunity to help.

Basically to answer your question, there is no doubt whether we care
about GNU/Linux - our activities speak for themselves. But YES, we
also care about people joining this list, which is the reason we are
so persistent in making sure people understand the importance of
writing good emails.
