About putting tldp.org on a CD. We could create a MSDN-like resource for this as well. HOWTOs and man pages and other help under a single searchable index, with some additional assistance pages. Content could be grouped into multiple CD's for newbies, intermediate & advanced users.
Things a newbie has problems with (from my own experiences):
1. I don't know if this can be done.
2. I know it can be done, I don't know how. Don't tell me to RTFM. Tell me which FM to R.
3. I don't understand the man pages.
4. Only if there were a one stop solution where I can run a query through all the man pages and HOWTOs and other help, my work would get done a lot faster.
Content within the man pages could also be grouped into sections, depending on the level of a user. A newbie probably only needs to know ls, ls -l, ls -a, and the fact that we can also write ls -al. Some people tend to develop a phobia, if bombarded with excessive content.
Hope we could have something like this, or even better. Would love to help in any way I can.
