Actually, that registration statement is not entirely true. Windows is
**** with all those serial numbers and stuff. That certainly doesn't
apply in Linux. But when it comes to Enterprise Linux, you have to
register with Red Hat or SuSE to get updates. Mind you, afaiu, it
doesn't matter where you got your copy of RHEL or SLES from. It is
quite legal to download both of them from, say, bittorrent or
something, because both are still GPL'd. Only, if you don't buy your
copy from Red Hat or SuSE, you won't get any updates. Though like I
said before, even if you didn't buy it, you can still register and get
the updates. Updates are not free.

Now, as for my signature, that is the result of registering at
http://counter.li.org. I actually use this signature outside such
Linux related mailing lists. I use this signature for all my other
emails, just to let people know that I'm using Linux! I do my bit to
help the community and Linux, any way that I can. :)
