Hmm, interesting.  I was trying to find out if there's a system-wide 
default application viewer list somewhere, but can't find one, so it'll 
probably have to be done in each desktop environment individually.

For GTK/Gnome applications you could try editing 
/etc/gnome/defaults.list and see if that helps.

If anyone does figure out how to change media viewers globally in Linux 
I'd be interested in the answer too.
