Hi Team, I have been using ptp4l for some time and are thankful for its contributors. I am currently using ptp version 2.0 for our commercial deployments. Recently I am having some issues with ptp4l running as a service. It works fine for a long time but all of a sudden we miss a seconds log in ptp4l and the next log is having a very high offset and frequency value as shown below.
ptp4l[1356003.918]: rms 39 max 57 freq -931 +/- 23 delay 539 +/- 0 ptp4l[1356005.065]: rms 12 max 18 freq -894 +/- 12 delay 539 +/- 0 ptp4l[1356006.637]: rms 123133375 max 376355930 freq -77833623 +/- 186202293 delay 539 +/- 1 ptp4l[1356007.644]: rms 14738423 max 31049776 freq -33465212 +/- 15404633 delay -1568 +/- 7861 ptp4l[1356008.647]: rms 6743251 max 8453671 freq -5437176 +/- 3273578 delay -155937 +/- 26787 ptp4l[1356009.650]: rms 8552376 max 8702394 freq +244513 +/- 580997 delay -129688 +/- 49652 ptp4l[1356010.656]: rms 7620227 max 8157030 freq +1170680 +/- 98166 delay -9784 +/- 12819 ptp4l[1356011.663]: rms 6362285 max 6946064 freq +1227936 +/- 34032 delay 10518 +/- 1758 ptp4l[1356012.670]: rms 5189309 max 5701302 freq +1057538 +/- 56923 delay 17623 +/- 2497 Even though it recovers after a few seconds, this kind of intermittent fluctuations are causing issues in the working of our devices (as the deployments are in the telecom domain). I tried bumping up the priority of the service using the following commands in the service file, but still we are seeing the issues. CPUSchedulingPolicy=fifo CPUSchedulingPriority=45 The driver details of the NIC used are given below: Driver Details: ethtool -i sriov2 driver: i40e version: 2.10.19.82 firmware-version: 7.20 0x800082b3 1.2585.0 expansion-rom-version: bus-info: 0000:65:00.0 supports-statistics: yes supports-test: yes supports-eeprom-access: yes supports-register-dump: yes supports-priv-flags: yes lspci | grep Network b5:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller XXV710 Intel(R) FPGA Programmable Acceleration Card N3000 for Networking (rev 02) b5:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller XXV710 Intel(R) FPGA Programmable Acceleration Card N3000 for Networking (rev 02) b7:00.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller XXV710 Intel(R) FPGA Programmable Acceleration Card N3000 for Networking (rev 02) b7:00.1 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation Ethernet Controller XXV710 Intel(R) FPGA Programmable Acceleration Card N3000 for Networking (rev 02) Any thoughts on rectifying this issue will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance Karthik
