Hi, We are running PTP4L on an Intel NIC(on Linux CentOS 7 System) which is connected to a PTP Master Boundary Clock through a 1G Copper link.
We are seeing that the offset levels on PTP4L are spiking up to ~330 microseconds multiple times in a day. See the logs below in red. And once in a while it spikes up to few 100s of milliseconds (see log event in bold and blue) May 31 01:39:19 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25788751.524]: master offset 333705 s2 freq +338136 path delay 3205 :: May 31 03:06:46 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25793998.562]: master offset -18306 s2 freq -3861 path delay 6387 :: :: :: :: May 31 04:23:54 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25798626.596]: master offset 339187 s2 freq +343639 path delay 3185 :: May 31 04:47:13 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25800025.606]: master offset -10050 s2 freq -329 path delay 3390 :: :: :: :: May 31 12:29:30 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25827762.807]: master offset 344888 s2 freq +349289 path delay 3159 :: May 31 12:31:35 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25827887.808]: master offset -20249 s2 freq -5781 path delay 3490 :: :: :: :: May 31 13:01:04 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25829656.821]: master offset 336807 s2 freq +341231 path delay 3179 :: May 31 15:32:56 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25838768.886]: master offset -12911 s2 freq -2482 path delay 3211 :: :: :: :: May 31 19:01:25 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25851277.977]: master offset 345219 s2 freq +349644 path delay 3198 :: May 31 19:10:51 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25851843.981]: master offset -11751 s2 freq +57 path delay 2895 :: ...offset levels goes down to nanoseconds level here.... :: :: :: :: May 31 19:40:08 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25853600.994]: master offset 339434 s2 freq +343836 path delay 3199 :: May 31 20:35:02 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25856895.017]: master offset -11403 s2 freq -881 path delay 5440 :: ...offset levels goes down to nanoseconds level here.... :: :: :: :: Jun 1 00:57:29 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25872642.131]: master offset 325571 s2 freq +330020 path delay 3204 :: *Jun 1 00:59:50 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25872783.132]: master offset 335059053 s2 freq +62499999 path delay 173868* :: Jun 1 01:08:40 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25873313.136]: master offset 11455 s2 freq +15429 path delay 20022 :: ...offset levels goes down to nanoseconds level here.... :: :: :: :: Jun 1 07:33:59 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25896431.304]: master offset 338469 s2 freq +342884 path delay 3166 :: Jun 1 08:08:37 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25898509.319]: master offset -13610 s2 freq -356 path delay 3456 :: ...offset levels goes down to nanoseconds level here.... :: :: :: :: Jun 1 10:09:09 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25905741.371]: master offset 336940 s2 freq +341377 path delay 3215 :: Jun 1 10:26:37 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25906789.378]: master offset -13577 s2 freq -2231 path delay 2688 :: ...offset levels goes down to nanoseconds level here.... :: :: :: :: Jun 1 11:05:24 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25909116.395]: master offset 339258 s2 freq +343702 path delay 3208 :: Jun 1 11:48:43 pts1 bash: ptp4l[25911715.414]: master offset -18359 s2 freq -3850 path delay 4508 :: ...offset levels goes down to nanoseconds level here.... Any pointers or suggestions on what could be going wrong here? NOTE: There is no other NTP or Chrony or PTP process running on this Linux Server. Thanks, Ankur
