I'm trying to setup my RHEL computer to sync to a NTP server with PTP abilities. I've been the ptp4l website and the following the RHEL website (https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/system_administrators_guide/ch-configuring_ptp_using_ptp4l). But when I type in the "ptp4l -i eno1 -m" command (my ptp server is connected to eno1 and not eth3).
Am I supposed to specify the PTP servers IP anywhere? I didn't see really any mention in config or anywhere When it runs, nothing happens. I get messages saying it picks a localclock as the grandmaster. I can ping the NTP server's PTP IP. Searching online doesn't seem to yield anything? Is it maybe because my NTP/PTP server is behind a switch? The workstation doesn't appear in the PTP client list either. This is what I am seeing "sudo ptp4l -i eno1 -m ptp4l[85176.146]: selected /dev/ptp0 as PTP clock ptp4l[85176.147]: port 1: INITIALIZING to LISTENING on INIT_COMPLETE ptp4l[85176.147]: port 0: INITIALIZING to LISTENING on INIT_COMPLETE ptp4l[85183.883]: port 1: LISTENING to MASTER on ANNOUNCE_RECEIPT_TIMEOUT_EXPIRES ptp4l[85183.883]: selected local clock 00802f.fffe.313d9b as best master ptp4l[85183.883]: assuming the grand master role" Any assistance would be appreciated, thanks!
