Yep, 32 bit.  I have not personally tested 64 bit kernels much, but I
plan to move to 64-bit Ubuntu once I get my permanent connection at home
 (should be soon.)

However, if the modem is supported by the snd-intel8x0m module, I don't
see why it should not work in 64-bit systems.  All it then would need is
a 32-bit environment on top of the 64-bit kernel to run the slmodemd
daemon, which can be easily achieved using a 32-bit chroot (or whatever
method your distro offers to run 32-bit apps.)
