Has anyone been able to figure out how to get the screen to turn off
completely when idle on this laptop?
I leave mine on 24/7 and am concerned the backlight will wear out too
fast if it's on all the time. I have the R3000Z with the NVIDIA video
card using the properietary NVIDIA driver and Fedora Core 4.
I installed the 1.0.7676 drivers from nVidia's website, added this to
the "Monitor" section of my /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Option "DPMS" "true"
and load my nvidia module with these options (set in my
/etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.modprobe file in ubuntu):
options nvidia NVreg_Mobile=1 NVreg_SoftEDIDs=1
Then set the Gnome screensaver preferences to enable DPM. Has worked
great for the past three months.
