I could use similar help. I have 64-bit Ubuntu Breezy on my Presario R3240 and it recognizes that the computer has a modem. This is an improvement, because the previous version (64-bit Hoary) didn't even know the computer had a modem. Unfortunately, it is not active and when I try to activate it all I get is an error message that ppp0 could not be activated. I also cannot figure out any way to determine what make/model it is. Ubuntu's Device Manager did not specifically list anything identified as a modem. I tried scanModem (available from linuxant.com) and it produced a txt file that is a page long and filled with incomprehensible stuff -- nowhere did it just say "hey dude, your modem is a xxxxx." I also tried lspci, lspci -nv and cat /proc/pci (commands suggested at linuxant.com) but again, the output gave me nothing that I could understand. But then, I'm just a lowly user here. I have little knowledge of how this computer functions. Mostly I just poke at stuff until I get it to work. If anyone can tell me how to figure out what kind of modem I have I'd appreciate it. Then maybe I can figure out how to get it working. _______________________________________________ LinuxR3000 mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pcxperience.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/linuxr3000 Wiki at http://prinsig.se/weekee/
