Thanks for the suggestion.

When I tried it that way round it said "file already exists" which
rings a bell from the first time I did this a year or so ago.  The
symlink is actually created in /etc/rc5.d so I *think* that part has
actually worked properly. AFAIK the syntax means:

create a link to *this file* in *this directory*

The problem with Xandros is that it doesn't tell you what it is doing
as it loads.  All you get is "loading kernel, "checking root
partition" etc.. very bland with no detail, which is frustrating
because I can't see if any errors come up.
