Intel has confused me with their naming scheme, so I needed to go
refresh my memory of what "Intel Core Solo", "Intel Core Duo" and
"Intel Core 2 Duo" mean. The best source I found in my cursory look was
Wikipedia.

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core>:
+ "Intel Core is the name used for the processor code named Yonah"...
+ "Core Duo is the world's first low-power (less than 25 watts) Dual
   Core processor"...
+ "EM64T (Intel x86-64 extensions) is not supported by Yonah. However,
EM64T support is planned for Yonah's successor, Core 2, code-named
   Merom."

<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2>:
+ "Intel Core 2 processors will feature EM64T"...

I installed _SuSE Linux 10.0_ on a Core Duo laptop months ago, just
to try it out. *If* memory serves me correctly, I think the install
defaulted to the i686 SMP kernel.
Today, I installed _SuSE Linux 10.1_ on an "engineering sample"
Core 2 Duo desktop machine that Intel loaned my employer. It defaulted
to the x86_64 SMP kernel.
