Well, first because now we have java7 and java8 hudson jobs and thus we will kill one - less burden for sure :). Second comparing Java7 (https://hudson.eclipse.org/linuxtools/job/linuxtools-master/buildTimeTrend ) and Java8(https://hudson.eclipse.org/linuxtools/job/master-java8/buildTimeTrend) build times Java 8 is always at least 5 mins faster for our builds.
