I was looking into this just Monday. It looks like it's RAID 10 until you get 6 nodes IIRC, at which point it can do something similar to a RAID 5. I stumbled across a great howto that seems better than the howtoforge one in my quick reading. I'll see if I can find it again, I don't think I bookmarked it.... ah, yes, I did, indirectly.
