On the topic of old and/or underpowered laptops and/or linux distros... Has anyone tried loading UNR (Ubuntu Netbook Remix) from CD rather than USB? I have an old laptop (c. 1998, no-brand, 128M ram, 400Mhz cpu) on which i would be interested in trying out UNR (without buying hardware and w/o touching newer in-use laptop), which likewise won't boot from USB (well, i didnt re-check, but c.1998, i'm assuming not). If not tried, any idea how easy or hard? For that matter, i'd be interested in trying out UNR on an old tower (also not bootable from USB). I keep hearing from non-LUG non-nerd type people, the effect of "I just wish the computer could be simpler."
