Yep your right!  Wine has it's own implementation of DirectX 9.0c at
this time.  I was under the impression that wine used OpenGL to
emulate DirectX, but not according to their site.

I'll have to try some OpenGL games, i.e. Sauerbraten, OpenQuake or one
of the others.
