I'm having nothing but problems with Kubuntu 9.10. I moved from Mandriva 2005 LE to Kubuntu 9.10. Different hardware, twice the memory (1GB to 2GB), P4 32 bit 3ghz vs AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+.
I did NOT move any of my home directory stuff. I did reimport all my kmail mailboxes. My old KDE 3.x desktop locked up and required reboot once a week or so, the new 4.3 KDE desktop reboots itself at least daily, sometimes multiple times daily. The last few times it rebooted it was fine until I started running kontact, then hard drive started swapping like crazy (you could hear it) and kmail stayed unresponsive for at least an hour, then it started working again, though I can still hear the hard drive swapping. Hardware? Lousy Software (there are a lot of people saying they still think kde4.3 isn't ready)? What's your guess? I may need to switch to gnome because I really need to work. If that turns out to be the case, can I easily enough import kmail to something? What something do you recommend? Thanks.
