I have cracked an encrypted zip to recover the source code for SDSL physical layer control firmware, and a significantly extended derivative of that code (maintained as an open source project in a public CVS repository) will run on the Open Source Hardware board I have built, which is currently undergoing functional bring-up. I don't know what kind of encryption rar uses though - but if you are interested in leading a rar cracking project, I may be interested in collaborating with you on it. In my view there are two kinds of free software: that which was free from the beginning and that which has been liberated by force. I use both and interweave the two together to create new works which surpass what would have been possible with either source alone.
