Hi, I'm planning to set this up for myself and for a client: a linux desktop with virtualbox running and Windows 7 as guest OS. The twist is I want to automate starting up the windows desktop when linux boots up, and plan to use anacron(maybe cron?) to make clones of the virtual disk image weekly. So it looks like I'm going to :
1) for backup, edit the file /etc/anacrontab, as root, and add the following single line: 7 5 backup VBoxManage clonehd "/pathto/DiskToClone.vdi" "/pathto/ClonedDisk.vdi" 2) for the autostartup, edit a file within /etc/init.d, make it an executable init script like on this page: http://tips4linux.com/create-a-startup-script-for-debian-and-ubuntu-systems/ and include a line like: VBoxMange startvm [vm name] Anyone foresee problems with this? The main thing I see is that I would prefer the backup run at night, whereas anacron runs at boot. So might cron be more appropriate. These are desktops, not laptops and could be reliably left on all night: weekly, anyway. -- Christopher Craig Craig Digital Systems, Owner Kiwanis Director and Division Newsletter Editor 951. 522.9323 _______________________________________________ LinuxUsers mailing list [email protected] http://socallinux.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/linuxusers
