Oh I totally overlooked the other two questions.

I have an iPad as well. Not 3G. I tether it to my cell phone for
internet as needed. Works fine. I primarily use it for RSS/news,
Reddit. I do some emailing with it. When I had an iphone I used it for
ssh but I've never tried ssh'ing into anything via the ipad. Probably
should. I also use it for music. iRig  is very cool.

There is no reason to visit the store unless you want to play with the
various Macs or unless you want it the same day. If you order online
you can do many customizations that are not available in store. The
stores won't do RAM or hard drive upgrades to my knowledge.
