Forgot to reply: Since the box is dedicated for SMS send/receive and the phones "permanently" assigned to their own ports, I thought that's the way I should go about it :). But yeah, the serial from the phone is a much better idea, ensuring whichever port they get connected to, they still get the same symlink.
