I'm okay with the decision, but find the flip flops confusing and disconcerting. It is as if one hand does not know what the other is up to and it leaves users scratching their heads.
F-Spot should not be used at all. It has had a bug for over three years that destroys metadata. You would think that the developers would fix it by now. Use anything but F-Spot. I suggest Digikam, but it is KDE you will need to install the runtimes for it, but most people have them if they install K3B which is also KDE. GThumb is not great, but at least it does not destroy your metadata. Digikam is great. It was reviewed recently on Sourcetrunk podcast. The decision to include PiTiVi (not a done deal) really mystifies me. But I don't have a video camera and suspect that I am a not alone. Do people who use cell phones and the like really want to make movies out of their shots? I seriously doubt that many would invest the time due to the low quality and the nature of the shots. I downloaded Lucid yesterday, but the KDE version would not install. It loaded fine but the install programme crashes. It is only aplha1. I will try the GNOME version.
