If you gonna run server also recommend vmware server .This way you could have desktop environment and server on the smae computer with out affecting each other as fare stability or security goes.
So use your linux desktop instal on it vmwar server and on the vmware server install your server environment. I have Ispconfig3 runing that way and I have to say that it is awesome.
