I've just downloaded the Linux version Adobe AIR which comes in the
form of a .bin file. Now I'm trying to figure out just how to install
the darn thing. I tried doing gksu ./ from the
command line, but that got me nowhere. What should I try next?

Define "nowhere"? If it gave you "permission denied", (which I presume
it did), you can run 'chmod +x AdobeAirInstaller.bin' then try running
it again.

My wife installed it by herself, and she doesn't "do" linux (she went to
tweetdeck's website, I'd already installed flash, and she clicked a
couple of buttons and -voila- Adobe Air.)

Or try:

$ sudo sh ./AdobeAirInstaller.bin
