Whenever I run across issues like that - especially on a machine that's
fairly newly installed, I tend to suspect hardware issues.  It doesn't
*always* turn out that way, but if it smells like a duck...  Do you get any
errors when you try booting without the LiveCD???  If you do, posting them
would help us determine what the exact issue is.
