You could use scp, which is a feature of ssh. Basically, it's ftp encased in an encrypted tunnel. You need an ssh server on one of the machines. I suggest openssh-server and an ssh client on the other. The syntax is 'scp <source file> <destination>'. When you're referring to the machine at the other end of the network, use '<usern...@ip_address/DNS_name>.
