Reboot your Laptop and on the bootloader menu just before it loads the OS..
1. Press cursor any keys.
2. select the kernel and press "e" to edit it.
3. delete this values "rhgb quite" and type single
e.g
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 rhgb quiet
to
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-53.el5 ro root=/dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 single
4. Press "b" to boot the system in single user mode once the above
parameters are changed.
5. type "passwd" on the terminal to reset the root password.
