You will most likely find that most distributions are similar in that. There are chess interfaces for all of the more popular GUIs like Gnome and KDE and there are some for X itself.
There are also play engines that many of the interfaces can interact with so you can play against your computer. They offer from beginner to master level in playing ability though after awhile become easily predictable since they don't have the abilities that IBM's Big Blue has in mathematically calculating odds of win loss based on the move.
