My Mint 9 box runs all the time. We just shut the monitor off and walk away. Each time it's given a chance to sit and not be used, it goes to low-graphics mode when we go to use it again. My video card is a NVidia Geforce FX 5200 and I'm running the NVIDIA-Linux-x86-173.14.25- pkg1.run driver that I downloaded from NVidia's site. Here is a snippet of the Xorg.0.log file:
(II) NVIDIA(0): Support for GLX with the Damage and Composite X extensions is (II) NVIDIA(0): enabled. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure (EE) NVIDIA(0): that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and (EE) NVIDIA(0): that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly. (EE) NVIDIA(0): Please consult the NVIDIA README for details. (EE) NVIDIA(0): *** Aborting *** (II) UnloadModule: "nvidia" (II) UnloadModule: "wfb" (II) UnloadModule: "fb" (EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration. If I kill gdm and re-install that same driver, the kernel module is recreated and it works after that until the next time it's left alone. In all my years of Linux, I've never seen anything like this. Questions, comments, and insults are all appreciated. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
