I've given up on trying to fix an issue that's plagued me for the last
month. It's time to re-install. What I would like to know is - is there
a
way to list all of the packages I've installed using apt-get / aptitude
following my initial install last time? I was thinking of doing 'dpkg -l
old_dpkg' before the reinstall and 'dpkg -l> new_dpkg' after the install
and running 'diff' between the files. Is there a better way to do it?

If no files are seen on the CD, then the ISO image wasn't expanded
correctly onto the CD. Try getting another program to create the CD for
you.
I use ISO Recorder Power Toy (FREE).
Do a Google search on:
write iso to cd windows xp
(replace xp with your version of windows in the search string)
