Your point is well taken. However, you must admit that having things "just work" out-of-the-box goes a long way to score brownie points with anyone transitioning from the Windows world.
Even on the Windows platform, one must install the Adobe, Java, etc manually. Since the web browser is arguably the application that is most frequently used, I love it when a newbie tells me that everything "just works" without having to do any tweaking. This is why I recommend Mint over Ubuntu.
