Cavalier isn't *known* for quality networking, IIRC. And they're not
the only ones; Qwest is broken all over the NorthWest (in random
towns, I get 'DNS queries formatted in a way that will never return'.)

Once you get things working, you might take a look at:
http://code.google.com/p/namebench/

It's a free python app that times a bunch of DNS servers (OpenDNS,
GoogleDNS, etc) and recommends a fast configuration.
