The graphics driver is linked to the kernel and headers. You can try
running an earlier kernel and once in you can try re-installing the
latest graphics driver or kernel or both. It could  also be a problem
with the xserver. These things can be tricky to resolve so be patient.
It was likely caused by an incomplete upgrade or an uneven update.
These things often work themselves out as you upgrade normally, but
you can use Synaptic or apt-get to try to fix it on your own.
