This is what I've been using to keep files sync'd between USB disk and my 
music folder on the computer......

~$ rsync -au /media/truecrypt6/Music/ /home/jeff/Music/ 
~$ rsync -au /home/jeff/Music/ /media/truecrypt6/Music/ 

You COULD do this is one command as 
~$ rsync -au /media/truecrypt6/Music/ /home/jeff/Music/&&rsync -au 
/home/jeff/Music/ /media/truecrypt6/Music/

This copies files that aren't on the remote but does not overwrite 
anything.  

Caveat: If you moved files from one folder to another on one source and 
didn't repeat this action on the other source, it will create duplications.
