TestDisk is good, but it's SLOW, because it's recovering *every* file from
the partition (you can filter by extension, but not folder), and it recovers
everything to a stack of folders--the original file names and hierarchy are
lost.
It'll recover anything you throw at it, but it's messy.

>From within windows (AFAIK, only), Piriform's recuva works really well, and
lets you restore by folder/file name. It isn't quite as through as TestDisk,
but if you have access to a windows box you may want to give that a look.
