I haven't played with samba much. Isn't samba for connecting between a Linux and Windoze? I'm trying to do exactly what you did pointing a CUPS client on the laptop to the CUPS server on the desktop box. I just don't know how to do it. I'm trying to point the ipp protocol to the ip address of the desktop box. Apparently, I'm not doing it the right way because the client expects the printer to be attached to the laptop - and I don't understand why.
