Hey,

It depends on your server manufacturer and raid controller, but there are a
few ways that you "might"be able to get some useful information.

You can cat /proc/scsi/scsi or cat /proc/driver/cciss/cciss[0-9]* and get
results like what is below. The cciss driver is an HP/Comaq thing so if you
have neither use /proc/scsi/scsi. You can sift through the output dmidecode
and hope to find things there.

This server has 5 drives and they are all setup as Raid 0 in the
controller. I use softraid hence all Raid 0 devices.:

root@netserv0:~# cat /proc/scsi/scsi
Attached devices:

Vendor: DELL Model: PERC 6/i Rev: 1.11

Host: scsi2 Channel: 00 Id: 00 Lun: 00

Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 05

If you have an HP it's much easier, but Dells vary. You can install Dell's
Open Manage (assuming it's a Dell) and it'll give you every scrap of
information that you need to know about the server. You said no 3rd party
tools which I interpret to mean that you don't want to install anything
further to get the information.
