Alan, I've only seen resources on the server end shared with the client using putty, but I suppose it could be possible. However, if you have SSH enabled, it may be easier to download the repo on your Windows box. Zip the folder, then use Filezilla or WinSCP (both free and open source) to copy the zipped file to the server using SCP (a sub-program of SSH).
If you wish to still pursue the method you requested, I'll have to do some research and testing on that, as I've never attempted it before or read about it being used.
