Andy and Linuxwacom,
I was able to gain control of my Wacom, with all of its features, and
even working in GIMP.
I achieved this by following the instructions of the poster Ralf
Hölzemer at 2006-03-12 14:39:14 UTC on the following Ubuntu bug report site:
https://launchpad.net/distros/ubuntu/dapper/+source/xorg/+bug/28846
By putting wacom_drv.so in the right place and modifying its
permissions, my Wacom was working perfectly on the following reboot.
