Linuxwacom Discuss, Now that my Linuxwacom drivers are working perfectly, with pressure sensitivity and everything, I finally realize the point of having "Window" mode in GIMP.
I have two monitors, which means that if I'm drawing in "Screen" mode, with the image I'm editing taking up one monitor, I'm only able to use half my tablet for drawing on that screen. However, ordinarily "Window" mode doesn't work, regardless of being in "Relative" or "Absolute" mode, because it makes the GIMP tool and the cursor appear in different places, which is disorienting and unworkable. I did some looking around on the Linuxwacom site, and discovered that if I remove the "SendCoreEvents" from the "stylus" input device in the "ServerLayout" section of my xorg.conf file, then GIMP's "Window" mode would work. This turned out to be true, but not without some severe limitations. By doing this, it means that only the mouse can move the mouse pointer outside of GIMP. The stylus can't be used as a general pointing device. Even within GIMP, the stylus moves only when the mouse is inside the drawable area. It can't touch any of the menus or tools or anything. This means that when one is drawing, and one wants to switch tools, one has to put the pen down, grab the mouse, select the tool, move the cursor back into the drawable area, put the mouse aside, pick the pen up again, and then use the new tool. Clearly not a set up that one can really do any work in. I noticed, though, that all the information I was looking at was no more recent than 2003. So I'm hoping maybe someone has figured out a better way, or that GIMP or Linuxwacom has evolved a solution to this Is there a way to get GIMP's "Window" mode to work while still allowing the stylus to be used as a general pointing device as well? I hope the situation that I've described makes sense. Any advice or information would be much appreciated. -- Dave M G Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft Kernel 2.6.17.7 Pentium D Dual Core Processor PHP 5, MySQL 5, Apache 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Using Tomcat but need to do more?
