Sometimes a person is so interested in a topic as to want to receive the
individual messages because
1) if the list is unmoderated, they come through as they are submitted
without the member's waiting for them to appear in a digest issue, or
2) they are easier to reply to or easier to arrange in threads for reading;
but also to want to receive the digests because
1) they are easier to keep in a personal archive; or
2) because they are numbered, a member can make sure that (s)he receives
all articles.
