It's not the number of programs > out there that do this, but how many are using them. Yup, at this point you're down to pretty much just the hard-core Berkeley mail, mh, elm, and RMAIL users. Pine and mutt display images, if a bit cumbersomely, and exmh and Gnus both inline them. And of course pretty much everything on the Mac and PC has been handling inline images for a while now.
