When you're creating a new db in EM the file properties default to
"automatically grow file" (checkbox) "by percent 10%" and with maximum file
size "unrestricted file growth". These properties are also configurable
after the fact in your db properties in EM, under the Data Files tab.

FYI, this is also one of the requirements for the service-packs for
sql7/2000 that you have to make sure your master db is set to automatically
grow with unrestricted file groth before you attempt the service pack
install, otherwise the potential exists for the installation to fail
half-way through by running out of available storage space.
