just use the request scope and you should be fine... <cfset request.dsn = "mydsn">
Then on any given cfquery, cfstoredproc, cfinsert or cfupdate tag, you use that request variable <cfquery name="blah" datasource="#request.dsn#"> The request scope will pierce through the layers of any custom tags you might be using, thus allowing you access to your dsn regardless of what module you're in currently...
