LoadRunner is very, very slick and highly scriptable. Microsoft has a free load testing tool that a lot of people swear by--I think the acronym for it is WSAT or something like that. Just make sure whatever you do, run the load testing app on an actual server-class machine, not just someone's desktop or laptop. If you run it from a laptop you're basically stress-testing the laptop more than the server you're trying to test. If you have an actual server to run it from you'll get more accurate results.
