Google's expanding use of various technologies known
as Ajax.

Ajax is a recently coined name for a dense mouthful of
software technologies that are built into Web
browsers. The most important of them are JavaScript, a
computer-programming language; dynamic HTML, which is
a way of displaying information on a screen; and
XMLHTTP, a procedure a Web browser can use to very
quickly get information from a central server.

You can see Ajax in action when you view Google Maps.

To see what they are capable of,go to maps.google.com,
zoom into a location, click inside the map and then
drag the image around. It's Ajax that is moving the
map for you, scrolling it much faster than you're
probably used to on the Web.

Guides to MySQL 5 New Features
For so long, Web developers have had a shopping list
of feature requests for MySQL, the most popular open
source database, most of which seemed to be
perpetually consigned to be implemented in "a future
version". Well believe it or not, that version in now
beta, and it's time for developers to start learning
to use all these new goodies!

Thankfully, the developers of MySQL seem to realize
this, and have published a series of PDF ebooks
covering each of the major new features of MySQL 5.0
from basic concept to practical application.

Stored Procedures (67 pages)
Triggers (9 pages)
Views (42 pages)
Data Dictionary (29 pages)

More articles may still be on the way. You might want
to watch MySQL's developer news (RSS, Atom) for the
next couple of weeks if you're interested.
