For instance, in Subversion even file name changes can be tracked. Subversion seems to mainly focus on fixing the problems CVS has dealing with situations where files get renamed, split up, are links to other files, or are edited quite heavily (the commit system is a bit more efficient as well).
Currently, the only reason I am still on CVS at home is that I have to have integration with Eclipse and the Subclipse plugin for Eclipse is not quite ready for me to depend on it yet. So that is one thing to consider.
