I'd have to review it but one of the chapters in Forta's Reality ColdFusion MX: J2EE Integration talks about portlets. I'll take a look and see if there's any relevant gotchas, tips, etc. You might also be able to get this book pretty cheap used on amazon.com now since it's been out for a while.
