With G00 it makes sense to hold off on the MG kits until sales for the current 1/100 line has dwindled down significantly. That way they can sell the same scale twice. I have the 1/144 and 1/60 scale Exia but I am holding out for the MG 1/100 Exia.
With Seed/Destiny it is odd that we have so many Strike Variants when there are a lot of other Gundams in the series that have been ignored. I am accustomed to mono-eye MS getting second class treatment but typically Bandai will roll out obscure Gundams such as RX-78-4 and RX-78-5 without blinking an eye. As far as UC I always wondered if they skipped some obvious release choices, such as the Jagd Dogas, to save them for later to keep the MG line going or if they skipped them because they considered the designs too risky. Given how much of a risk the Turn A Gundam was I wasn't expecting it to get a dance partner for a couple of years if ever. I think the only reason the Turn A even came out when it did was because tying it to the 100th kit gave it added promotional hype. Without that it might've been a much tougher sell. I would've loved a Daghi Irusa or a Den An Zon but those two were risky without factoring in how many people were disappointed with the look of the MG F91. I think that it would be obvious that they at least need to get a few Victory Gundams out there just to complete the UC Gundam line. V has potential for a few variants which should appeal to Bandai. I am surprised that they haven't gone back and released more designs out of 0080 and 0083. The Gelgoog J, Rick Dom II, Hy-Gog, Dom Tropen and Gerbera Tetra are all worthy designs. I can see where they are scared to release more Z/ZZ kits because a lot of those designs have not aged well. But then again they could try a few of them. I think they could release the Dogas from CCA. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dr. Core Sent: Friday, February 22, 2008 12:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [gundam] MG Line Still Treading Water, but barely? What else would you have them do? The only major design pool left is G00. I don't think the older series like V and Turn-A have enough appeal to feed the MG line. It's a pretty clear sign when Turn-A Gundam and various F91 Gundams didn't get dance partners (e.g. Turn-X and Vigna Ghina), that those lines won't get extended. What's left is v 2.0 for the most popular UC designs, next one might be ZZ, or GP-01? Seed has absolutely pointed out the way forward. The number of all model kits and all MG kits must have long surpassed Wing/EW. If it continues, it will soon surpass even Z, to become no.2 in all time success only topped by TOS. If you are counting MG only, then it must already be in the no.2 position? Neither Z or W has nearly as many MG kits. So sooner or later MG will pick up on G00 and continuing in the future, you can only hope for, at best, a trickle of MG from the old UC series. But will MG G00 really come out? If by mid-year we still don't see them, then is MG going to follow PG and go gently into the goodnight? -- Dr. Core -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list -------------------------------------------------- The Gundam Mailing List MK-II [email protected] Archives: http://www.gundam.com/gml Help: Email [EMAIL PROTECTED] with this in the BODY: help list
